When I start my pre-session spiel, I always talk about how it will be awkward for the first 20 minutes or so while they get comfortable both in front of the camera and learning how they interact with each other photographically. Unless I blacked out, I don't remember ANY awkward!
They said they had never had any professional photos done but I almost don't believe them! They were perfectly natural and interactive from the first moment (which made my job super easy).
