Vendor Feature | Photo Booth - MDRN Photobooth Co.

7/16/2015

I am a little bias on this one. I'm not sure exactly how I found my new friends at MDRN Photobooth Co., I think someone had shared a post on Facebook that they were looking for people to work the booth. My eyes caught to it immediately, since I was still looking to work for myself, and not be an employee, but still wanting to bring in a little more money while I was building up my wedding gigs. AND it was photography related. I jumped on my email and chatted it up with Catalina. I have now been a Booth Butler since October.

They are just so different from any other photo booth out there. They refuse to be the cliche, typical, tacky photo booth  (overtime I see a different photo booth it's oversized glasses and boas, really?!). It's not too hard to have a backdrop, a camera and some props. That is now the widespread, everyone and anyone is doing photo booths. MDRN is fancy, classy (sassy) and full of sparkle. Literally. They make their own custom sparkly props and only have sparkly backdrops.

Saying they are customizable is a complete understatement; everything is customizable. There's nothing they won't try. From props, to backdrops, to print templates, to the booth itself. We can now customize to BE YOU if you want! Due to desire of corporate companies, we can now wrap the machine!!!

We get compliments every time of how different we are (uh oh, here I am saying "we" already! I have become so personally invested in this company) and that we aren't the typical boxed in photobooth. Again, we are literally open space. But enough of me. I'll let Catalina take over:

"At MDRN Photobooth, we’re as unique as a Kardashian with a first name that starts with an R.

Our photobooths are customized to reflect your personal aesthetic taste so that, no matter what, when it’s time to say “cheese!” you know that your guests will be fighting to have their photo taken.

We offer standard and custom props to give your photobooth that little extra something – like when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the Golden Globes and everyone loved it because those two women can do no wrong. That’s sort of what our props do for your event.

Once your guests step out of the camera’s view, they’ll each receive a print-out photo that will include a fun design that reflects your event's style. After that, they can instantly share their photos on Facebook and Twitter for the whole world to see using our social media stations.

Now, you’re probably wondering something: How do your photobooths go off without a hitch? Well, we’re glad you asked. Our Booth Butlers are one-of-a-kind and totally dedicated to making sure that your event is better than the Met Gala. Not every event can have BeyoncĂ© in attendance, but with the professionalism and elegance that the Booth Butlers bring, you’ll feel like she could walk through the door at any moment. We're always black tie dressed, no matter the event.

At MDRN, we’re all about keeping your event classy before the guests arrive, during the festivities, and after everyone has gone home to tell their friends about what an amazing time they had. Our service doesn’t end when the lights go out because we continue to strive to make sure that your experience with us is the best thing since Double Stuf Oreos."

They're not your average photo booth. Trust me, I don't think Giant Tiger would pay any old photo booth company to drive from Ottawa to Prince Edward Island to represent them at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival. Or have a company in Toronto that want's to franchise them. Enough said.
I must have at least 50 prints in my room from all of the test lighting I've done...

Wedding Albums | Legacy of the Heirloom

7/14/2015

I had a photographer fan girl moment yesterday. The doorbell rang and I squealed  True story. I had been tracking my sample album and knew that it would be arriving today. I was beyond excited to hold the sample album of Nicole + Tom's wedding that I had designed with the help of Align Album Design & KISS Books.

Seriously. If you don't full on enjoy album design, go chat with Align. They are genius. And KISS is just the most luxury leather wedding album out there.

I have one sample album already. The stunning 8x8 leather in the colour Amalfi Coast, which I felt matched my brand perfectly. It blew my mind and I just wanted to show it off to the world. It has done it's job until now. KISS has made so many new developments the last few months that I knew I needed to get something even more mind blowing, with what they can now do. I wanted to also jump for something out of my comfort zone that I wouldn't usually get.

I hadn't REALLY looked at that swatch before. One day Aquamarine caught my eye, and I said "THAT'S what I need!" I had just received Nicole + Tom's images back and was so proud of it. So I jumped and bought the most luxurious 10x10 with cameo window and engraving. I want my couples to see what difference the size mades. This piece is just a thing of beauty.

Seriously. Who wouldn't want to pick up this thing.

Your first decision as an engaged couple is to set priorities for your wedding planning. You have to desicide what you value most. Is it the dress? The food? The venue? As a sentimental girl AND photographer, I'm a little bias, but I believe that couples should make their photography a top priority. After the big day is over, you will leave your reception with a spouse & your pictures....that's it! All of that planning and preparation is over in a matter of hours! So if you're choosing to invest in high quality photography, those images deserve a classy, elegant home after the wedding. Yes, you get the digital files, but who walks around with their laptop showing their photos off? I offer high end, leather bound Legacy Albums for my wedding clients. The images are printed straight onto the pages and the covers are wrapped with top grain leather. This is the perfect ending to The Wedding Experience and it's a keepsake that you will be showing your children and grandchildren one day! If there is only one thing that gets kept to hand down the generations, it's wedding albums. Digitals don't stand the test of time like leather does.

Taylor Swift - 1989 World Tour in Ottawa

7/07/2015

If you've known me for any more than a couple of months, I think I can say I know people knew this was coming. Taylor Swift has been my inspiration, and best friend at times, since the moment she came onto the scene in 2006. And it's probably a little corny, but I legitimately say I'm not sure if I would have gotten through high school without her. It was a tough time for me, and I've never been one to use my words well. And for that, she said it for me. I've been her biggest fan since I'd Lie, which was never even really released as a single.

I know a lot of people criticize her for a lot of things, including her transition from country to country pop and then not country at all, but really, if that's what she wants to do, who cares? She's had that hard time, like everyone else, finding who she is, and New York really changed her. Anyone can tell she's just in a much happier place in life right now, and I'm so proud of her.

June 2009

Back in 2008 she always drew a heart on her foot in permanent marker. On her self-titled CD cover, every award show, every publicity; it was there. A lot of people thought it was a tattoo, she confirmed later that it wasn't but that she would get it done if her Fearless album went double platinum, which it did. But she didn't keep that pact, probably primarily that she was super passionate about being that good role model and that daddy wouldn't approve, but I did for her. Not JUST for her, I've always thought things like that were cute, but it was appropriate.

I saw her live for the first time in May of 2010, with my mom & my friend, Morgan. I am still so disappointed when I didn't go see her when she opened for Brad Paisley. Mind. Blowing. Performer.

Sign I made for May 2010 show

So I'll definitely tell you I had high expectations going into this show. So different, but still just as incredible of a performance. I was worried I wouldn't enjoy the show as much as I am still acquiring taste for her 1989 album but I'm glad I was proved wrong. So happy to have had Max along side me this time, so show him how amazing she truly is. I have no more words. She just is.

In so many ways, she's changed, but in a lot of ways she is still the same old Taylor that she ever was. She's grown, she's an adult. But she's still modest as hell, humbled by her fans, loves just standing there being overwhelmed by the screaming crowd, hair flips, and having long talks with the crowd. She will forever be my idol, and I hope there's someone just like her when the time comes for my own children to look up to.

Of course we had to visit our friends at Majic 100 & my girl Laura
2010 vs 2015. My same old Taylor <3

Brett Kissel & Jordan McIntosh - Country Concert for Canada Day in Kanata

7/02/2015

Live country music AND fireworks? You can pretty much guarantee that's where I'll be. Canada Day is always that. It was a hard decision this year, there were so many big names in the Capital!

- Blackwell Band & Leah Daniels were in Barrhaven, and I've seen Blackwell before.
- Gord Bamford & Andee were downtown on Parliament Hill. I saw Andee in Barbados and she rocked it.
- Jordan McIntosh joined Brett Kissel in Kanata. I've seen both of them before. Yet they still won for me. These boys are the sweetest.

If you've seen either of these guys perform alone, you know they're awesome. For those who have never seen them perform together, they're SO much fun. When you follow country music as deeply as I do, it's so fun to see how close friends Jordan & Brett actually are. I'm so excited they have the chance to go on tour together (again) & hoping they bring the show back to Ottawa.

Amanda Kingsland of Country 101.1

I worked for the Perth Fair photographing Brett Kissel back in 2013 when pretty much the only song the crowd new was Started With A Song. That was the hit that brought him to the public eye, coincidently, it did start with a song. I remember the entire show the crowd was chanting for him to play it. Brett jokes, "hey guys, I know how this performing thing works, you know I'm saving that song for last?!" I was trying to find that show just now, how did I not blog it?! Such a cutie, I can't even count the number of photos that I have from that show that he smiled for the camera. He knows how to rock it.

Brett Kissel at the Perth Fair in 2013
Jordan, I had been trying to get out to see for so long now. Ottawa (well, Carleton Place) boy and I still hadn't seen him yet?! I finally had the chance too when he opened for (other homegrown girl) Kira Isabella and Dallas Smith back in January of this year. Did he ever blow my socks off for just an acoustic show! I will forever see this boy as much as I can because I'm so proud of how much he works his butt off to get where he's going. Not that a lot of other people don't, but it's so humbling to see it from the ground level up starting from his home town.

Canada Day in Kanata they both rocked it some more. I always love hearing live covers too, I find that so cool. I loved hearing Jordan cover Uptown Funk again. And Brett covering Shut Up And Dance? LOVE! I genuinely hope to see these two together again. Thanks for the epic show again boys. I want to get into concert photography more, because I absolutely love it, probably as much as I do weddings! If anyone's looking for a concert photographer, let me in on it! ;)

And for anyone who knows me, I can't resist fireworks. Thank you so much to my boy for still taking me out when he was exhausted from work.
