Marlee + Bryan | Pink & Grey Stewart Park Perth Wedding

8/25/2015

I met Marlee + Bryan over a year ago to discuss their wedding, which for everyone, was a long time coming. They have been through so much together and together have a daughter, whom I fell instantly head over heels for. Such a sweetie. Marlee + Bryan met in twelfth grade at Perth Collegiate taking an outdoor ed course and have been inseparable since, even through the 6+ years of attending university in different cities. Finally moved in together to start a life. Here they were, finally planning their vows.
This sweet, simple wedding was just perfect for the two of them. All that mattered were friends and family. All of the floral that you see was done by the bride herself. The only thing that changed as they got closer to the date, was Marlee's dress, which she needed to change because she is now pregnant!
Although rainy the night before, the rain held off all day for their outdoor ceremony. Their friends danced the night away at Code's Mill. Family friend and DJ, Casey White, was definitely the most original DJ I've seen in a long time.
Congrats on your perfect marriage and your growing family! I love you two sweethearts!

Amanda + Steve | Music & Books Sunset Engagement

8/20/2015

I was beyond excited when Amanda contacted me. I have known her since I was about six years old. Our families went to church together, and I looked up to her, because at the age of six, I wanted to be an alter server like her so bad. I reached second grade and that dream came true, she showed me the ropes. We went to the same elementary school, but she was almost four years older than me, so we never saw each other. After high school, she went to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, so I never saw her after that.

We follow each other on Facebook and I know she had been seeing the same guy for a long time now. Six years in fact. Every year that I see Fortissimo or the Ceremonial Guard downtown, she comments on my photos, "I see Steve!!" Her boyfriend, Corporal Steve Donegan, Royal Newfoundland Regiment, is in Ottawa every summer because he plays the trumpet in the Ceremonial Guard!! How cool!! I had subconsciously been wondering for a while when he was going to put a ring on it. On August 7th, she messaged me about her and Steve's first parking ticket, with attached photo. I was confused and didn't see it at first so she told me to look again. The photo of them holding the parking ticket together featured a left hand with a new piece of bling on it. I was so excited!

They have a crazy life, so I'm excited I got to squeeze in this engagement session before they left for home. Amanda is a teacher in Saskatchewan. Steve always in Ottawa for summer for the Ceremonial Guard, goes back to his usual duties, and is being posted in British Columbia now! They picnic in Majors Hill Park every year, so inevitably, that was the best place for Steve to get down on one knee. Their wedding will be in Ottawa, August next year, and I can't wait, and will be the epitome of sentimental. She is an English major and he a music major, so this will be their theme; as featured in some of their engagement photos.

Congratulations Amanda and Steve!! I can't be more excited or honoured that I am a piece to this sentimental wedding. Can't wait to see how handsome he looks in his Navy whites.

Printing Your Personal Photos | Blurb Books

8/18/2015

How is summer almost over already?! It's my favourite season and it always seems to go by way too fast. So much so that it's almost impossible for me to get through winter. In a dream world, I'd have enough cash to go to Barbados for the whole duration of winter every year ;)

If you're like me, you take a ton of pictures every summer (well....I snap them all year long...but you know...) but in this digital era, they never come off the computer screen! Ever since I started taking over taking photos for my mom, they never got printed. We have photo albums galore, until the transition to digital. Who goes back and looks through their computer for old photos?!

Since becoming a professional photographer, I see more and more meaning behind printing your photos. Especially for weddings, no one goes around with a laptop showing off their photos - I'm a huge album advocate. But what about your personal photos?! The last couple of trips I have taken with Max, I have started designing Blurb Books. I should be doing this with all of my photos eventually, but it's a step in the right direction. When I get home from a trip, I sit down and design an album for the trip. Blurb has their own design software that makes it easy for anyone to design a book.

These beautiful hard cover press printed books will eventually sit inside my future coffee table for the world to see. But for now, I pull them off the shelf and reminisce hot weather. Right now, Blurb is offering 25% off if you order before August 20!! I know that's not a lot of time, but it doesn't take long, so it's definitely worth the deal. Just enter discount code GATHER25!
